"Voters Say Obama Beat Romney In Second Debate"

This article talks about both candidates' numbers in the polls after the first presidential debate and before the second one. Romney gave the better performance in the first debate, which brought his numbers up in the polls. However voters said Obama gave a much more aggressive and effective approach in the second one,  bringing the incumbent's popularity back up. Voters became a bit more confident in Obama's ability to manage the economy and take back the position as president. Even though Mitt Romney had a surge of improvement after the first debate, it was said that his rate was already decreasing before the second debate took place. This still puts a thin line between the two candidates. Reuters pollster, Julia Clark says, "This was always going to be a very close election and that's back where we are now."
This article says that in the long run, the presidential debates "rarely affect the outcome of presidential elections." I would've thought the opposite. I always believed they would affect the election greatly because it gave voters a chance to hear and see the candidate's talk about the country's issues live, and give them a clear way to differ between each one's views.
Sullivan seems to be leaning towards the Democrats but it is not clear.
